Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Step-up SIP?
A Step-up SIP (also called Top-up SIP) lets you increase your monthly SIP amount by a fixed percentage every year. For example, if you start with ₹5,000/month with a 10% annual step-up, it becomes ₹5,500 in year 2, ₹6,050 in year 3, and so on.
How much extra does step-up SIP generate compared to flat SIP?
Significantly more. A ₹5,000 flat SIP at 12% for 20 years gives about ₹49.9L. The same SIP with a 10% annual step-up gives around ₹1.2Cr — nearly 2.5x more — because each year's increase compounds over the remaining tenure.
What step-up percentage should I use?
A 10% annual step-up aligned with your salary increment is most common. Even a 5% step-up makes a significant difference over 10–20 years. Use whatever percentage matches your expected income growth.
Is SIP better than FD?
Historically, equity mutual funds through SIP have delivered 12–15% annual returns over long periods, much higher than FD rates of 6–7%. However, SIP returns are not guaranteed and carry market risk.
