Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current FD interest rate in India?

FD rates in India (2025) range from 5.5% to 8.5% depending on the bank and tenure. Small finance banks often offer higher rates (7–9%) while PSU banks offer 6–7.5%.

How is RD interest calculated?

RD uses quarterly compounding. The standard formula is: Maturity = R × [(1+i)^(n+1) − (1+i)] / i, where R is monthly deposit, i = quarterly rate (annual rate ÷ 400), and n = quarters.

Is FD interest taxable?

Yes. FD interest is fully taxable as per your income tax slab. Banks deduct TDS at 10% if interest exceeds ₹40,000/year (₹50,000 for senior citizens). Submit Form 15G/15H to avoid TDS if not taxable.
